Last Post of the Year

Yeah, that title would probably be more dramatic if today weren’t the last day of the year.  Oh well.

So, I felt the need to blog even though I don’t have much to say.  It feels like I’ve been here a lot lately and actually I have, but I’ve been working on 2 posts that aren’t ready for public viewing.  Oh, nothing mysterious really, just 2 lists I haven’t completed.

One of those lists is a 101 things in 1001 days challenge.  What is that?  I found it via Twitter a couple weeks ago and well, I really like the idea.  It’s all about making a list of things (101) that will help you improve your life, specific things.  It’s harder than I thought, well I could list each and every quilt I have started and that would probably take half the list (maybe I should do that).  Anyway, I’ll be powering through this list today and tomorrow because I start this challenge tomorrow morning.  I’m a real big fan of to-do-lists and well, this is a biggie.  I’m going to post it public as a way to keep myself honest and on task.

I’ll also be starting WinoWriMo tomorrow morning as well.  Looking forward to working with the Wiffers on another challenge, I certainly did much better on NaNo with their help.  Thanks much guys!!  I learned too that I do better with a challenge when I have people cheering me on, which is why I’ve participated in my last Sweating with Sven challenge.  I’ve never done well and I realize that it’s because I’m working alone.

I’m looking forward to getting back into “On the Way Down” as I haven’t even looked at it for the last 10 days or so.  I’ve also had a couple other ideas tumbling around at the back of my mind.  I’ll have to see which is talking the loudest and work up an outline for it so I’ll have something ready and waiting when I need to take a break.

Let’s see, what else?  I’m hoping 2009 is a better year and 2008, not that this has been a bad year, I would just like to continue on with the positive and build upon it.  So hope everyone has a good New Year’s Eve and an even better 2009!

p.s.  why is it that the speller checker on the blog always flags “blog” as a misspelling?

Curious

Well, this morning isn’t quite what I expected.  I was suppose to be out shopping, but with the rawness of my throat I thought better of it.  So I’m sitting here, trying to ignore the siren song of the living room and the lit Christmas tree to get a little morning internet done.  Oh don’t feel bad that I’m ignoring the tree.  I sat with a warm cup of coffee and my Blackberry and composed an email I didn’t expect to.  In what is actually very typical fashion for me in a lot of ways I decided to be blunt and ask a question of an old friend instead of tapping dancing via email for the next few weeks.  I also, thanks in part to Kim, remembered to thank my old friend for being my friend during what was a very trying time in my life.  It was called high school.

I did have a curious event happen while composing that email.  I had a song suddenly start playing in my head.  A song I hadn’t listened to in days.  I’m listening to it presently, because, well if I’m going to be hearing it then I might as well hear it properly and not just as a vague soundtrack to email writing.  Besides, I never get the entire song to play in my head, it’s always just snippets.   Oh and never fear, I will absolutely spend the entire day trying to figure out the meaning of why that song this morning while composing an email I have imagined writing for several months now.  Because honestly I don’t believe in that kind of coincidence.  I just don’t.

Now the real test comes.  I need to not stalk my email (yes go ahead a laugh).  I’ve said my peace and the rest is up to the fates.

about yesterday

I’m not sure what to make of yesterday’s post.  Yesterday was my second most busy day on the blog, ever.  It was nice to finally get the on my own (last time it was traffic from someone else’s blog) but still.  I blather on about my writing and barely anyone notices.  I talk about my dream and 26 people come for a visit.

Oh well.  At least I got some traffic.

Nothing new to report.  I’ve putter way all of the morning and am close to doing the same for this afternoon.  I need to push away from the computer for a little and do . . . something.

No revision work was done yesterday.  I tried to get my manuscript spiral bound last night only to be told it would take hours.   Yeah, I’m going to leave my only hard copy (notes included) someplace other than my desk over night.  Sorry, won’t happen in this lifetime.  I might take a chance tomorrow, but not sure if I’ll be going anywhere tomorrow.  The weather isn’t suppose to be pretty.

Me? Over thinking? Never!

A little primer about me.  I over think things, I especially did so growing up.  I know I would have had a hell of a lot more fun in high school if I could have just stopped the over thinking thing.

I blogged on December 3rd about a dream that was chewing on the edges of my waking day.  The reason was in part the subject.  I have never dreamt about this particular person before.  Well I hadn’t until this morning.  I had another dream.  A very real dream.  What I mean by real is it lacked the flamboyance I usually have in my sleeping dreams.  My normal dream style is very David Lynch, very free flowing and dark and crazy.  The kind you wake up from and think “what the hell was that?”  So for a dream to lack that, it sticks with me and makes me wonder about meaning.  The reason I cling (yes I am aware I’m doing this) is I want there to be more meaning in this.

The specifics of this dream aren’t important for this conversation it’s the fact that I can still see it (dreams don’t stick with me very long usually).  I can still feel his navy wool coat against my cheek, the warmth of his hand in mine.

Yeah, I’m having a day here.

Not again.

And I’ve done it again, perhaps.  I’m happily typing away on my NaNo story, listening to my play list to help the time pass and I type in a line of dialog and it hits me.  Want to read what I wrote?

“Fred and Ginger are out front.”

First I name my hero after a well published minster and now 2 (2!) of my antagonists are named Fred and Ginger.   I don’t know what to do with this I really don’t.  Well besides laugh at myself.  I do so much subconsciously when I’m writing.  Of course, Ginger wasn’t the character’s first name, she was originally Muffy which was simply a place holder until I could come up with something very absurd (with a little help from the Wiffers).

Well, back to the salt mine that is typing this project up.

Monday already?

Can’t believe it’s Monday already.

It’s freezing here.  We had a single digit high temperature yesterday.  I don’t want to know what it’s going to be today.  I hate when Winter starts out like this.   Oh well, that’s life in this corner of the world.

I’m making very slow progress in the typing in of my NaNo manuscript.  I’m thinking today if I hit the halfway point I’ll be happy.  That’s about 20 pages from where I am right now and I’ve already put in 4 pages this morning.  Like I’ve said before for as slow and tedious as this is, it’s good to reacquaint myself with the story, even if it’s only been 2 and half weeks since I was writing on it.  I still like it and I’m still getting ideas come to me.  I’ve worked out the family dynamic a little more which is good, it will require some new scenes when I get to the point where I’m actually writing again.

Not much else going on.  I spent Sunday quilting.  I need to push myself on some of these projects and get them finished.  I have too many unfinished projects taking up space.  I have a plan for this.  I’m thinking I’ll spend my days writing/researching and after dinner I’ll work on quilts.  Besides, it’s in the evenings when I usually curl up with a movie so I’ll just be multi-tasking.  I can be very good at that.

Oh and I did finally find my gloves!  Too bad it was 3 days after we watched half of the downtown Christmas parade.  We’d (my folks and I) had gone to dinner downtown and since the parade was going to go right passed the restaurant we decided to stay and watch.  Oh boy, we so weren’t prepared for the 90 minute parade in frigid weather.  Me with no scarf, or hat, or gloves.   Of course if we’d realized BEFORE heading out that it was parade night we might have all been dressed just a little bit better.  Lesson learned.

Slowly the wheels grind

So late this afternoon I finally, finally, sat down with my manuscript and started reading through it, making little notes as I went.  It’s a great way to get the story back in my head after a short hiatus.  I’ve had a new character come to me and with her the beginning of a new scene.  Yeah, could have used that three weeks ago.  Oh well.  It does mean I need to figure out a new name for her, and her children.  Oh and while I’m talking names I have to come up with a new one for my hero.  Seems, I’ve managed to name my hero Rick Warren.  Name doesn’t ring a bell?  Maybe the book “A Purpose Drive Life” rings a bell.  Yeah, it’s was written by Pastor Rick Warren.  *head hit desk*  I mean, I’ve seen him on tv and he’s a cool guy and all, but I can’t name my hero that  now.  Not sure if I’ll come up with a completely new name or just a new last name.  I haven’t stopped being mad at myself for that one yet.  I’ll dig into the name book later and see if anything strikes my fancy.  Then I plan to google it to make sure it doesn’t belong to anyone else famous.

What else?  Oh, I had a dream this morning that’s still lingering around the edges.  Dreams don’t usually bug me but this one, I’ve dreamt about someone (a boy)  I care a great deal about but have NEVER dreamt about before – ever.  I don’t usually dream about people I know, even if they are the last thought in my head as I drift off to sleep, they just don’t come to my dreams.  So now, I’m thinking about it more than I should.  Which means I’m thinking more about him than  I probably should.

Not a whole lot else.  I mean, unless someone out there has seen my lavender suede Isotoner gloves.  I cannot seem to find them and well, it’s getting a little cold to be wearing fingerless mittens.  I know the moment I buy new ones they crawl out of whatever corner they are hiding in.
